How to Care for Your Hats

While recycling paper, plastic and glass might be something you do on the daily, textile waste and what to do about it is on the rise.

Verdalina was founded (10 years ago!) with slow and sustainable fashion at the core of our ethos. This means working with designers and artists who share these values by sourcing responsibility, making with integrity, and staying off the hamster wheel of fast! new! now!

Being intentional with what you buy + caring for the things you do purchase is very on-brand for Verdalina— and you. And we love you for it.

Straw + Paper
Lint rollers and brushes may be used for light cleaning and dirt removal. For stains use a cloth and warm water to lightly dab away dirt. Equal parts hydrogen peroxide and water can be mixed as a cleaning solution but should be used minimally to prevent shrinking or warping of straw. Store straw hats by filling the crown with tissue paper and placing the hat in a box in a dry, cool place.

Knits
Knits should be hand washed with cool water and a gentle detergent. Never wring or hang wet knits. Lay them flat to dry on a towel. See care labels for any special washing instructions. Lint rollers may be used between washings to remove light dirt. Store knit hats as you would a winter sweater.  *Do not wash knits with fur accents. Spot clean only.

Cotton + Fabrics
Spot cleaning with a mild detergent is recommended for most pieces. Always test a discrete area first before attempting stain removal. See the care label for any special cleaning directions. Cotton + fabric hats may be stored in a box to preserve their shape, and longevity.
